Let me introduce you to the concept of “neuritogenic” compounds: molecules that are known to regenerate nerve tissue and help repair damaged brains.

The Green Med Info website has a great database for published papers on different topics.

When using the search term “neuritogenic” some of the compounds that come up include:

  • Ubiquinol – CoQ 10
  • EGCG – as from green tea
  • Puerarin
  • Cannabinoids
  • Green Coffee Bean
  • Jujube
  • Lion’s Mane
  • Gensenosides
  • Curcumin

One key neuritogenic compound is sulforaphane with broccoli sprouts being the best source.

Part of the content for this article comes from an article published on the Natural News website

Further from the Natural News article:

Green Med Info has also published an overview of sulforaphane and its brain repair mechanisms as documented in published science. From that story:

The researchers determined the optimal concentration range of sulforaphane in promoting neural stem cell (NSC) growth without harming neurons. The researchers determined that “Concentrations of less than 5 mM did not induce cytotoxic e?ects, but rather potentially promote the growth of NSCs.”

Green Med Info has also published an overview of sulforaphane and its brain repair mechanisms as documented in published science. From that story:

The researchers determined the optimal concentration range of sulforaphane in promoting neural stem cell (NSC) growth without harming neurons. The researchers determined that “Concentrations of less than 5 mM did not induce cytotoxic e?ects, but rather potentially promote the growth of NSCs.” The term 5 mM means 5 milli-molar which is a reference to the concentration of sulforaphane in blood. 5 milli-molar is 5 thousands of a Mole. A Mole is a set number of molecules in one liter of a solution, regardless of molecular weight.

Although this depends a lot on body weight, we think it wouldn’t require much consumption of broccoli sprouts to achieve 5 mM concentrations in the blood of a person.

When neural stem cells were exposed to sulforaphane, they transformed into neurons

From the Green Med Info article:

…exposing NSCs to sulforaphane resulted in their differentiation [into] neurons, lending powerful support to the hypothesis that sulforaphane could stimulate brain repair.

This means that sulforaphane is a kind of molecular “activator” that causes neural stem cells to become neurons. This is how damaged brain cells are regrown.

How to grow your own sulforaphane for mere pennies

Because God and Mother Nature gave us all the medicine we need, you can “manufacture” your own sulforaphane for mere pennies and literally transform air into sulforaphane through the use of broccoli sprouts.

  1. Buy broccoli sprouts, a mason jar and a sprouting lid (see image below).
  2. Put about a tablespoon of broccoli spouting seeds into a mason jar, rinse with water, affix the sprouting lid and turn it upside to drain the water.
  3. Keep the sprouting jar upside down. Once a day, rinse with water and drain.
  4. In a few days, you have broccoli sprouts with loads of sulforaphane.

You can then eat the sprouts, use them in salads, blend them into smoothies, drop them into soups or whatever you want to do. Sulforaphane is a very robust molecule and it’s somewhat difficult to destroy, so don’t think you have to treat it like a delicate, fragile substance. Blending sprouts does not destroy their molecules. That’s because these molecules are very, very small.

Many grocery stores that offer sprouts typically also offer broccoli sprouts.

Other benefits of sulforaphane

Sulforaphane also exhibits powerful anti-cancer properties. GreenMedInfo lists the best properties of this molecule as reflected in published medical literature. It shows that sulforaphane is documented to help with:

  • oxidative stress
  • inflammation
  • prostate cancer
  • breast cancer
  • colon cancer
  • autism
  • pancreatic cancer
  • diabetes type-2
  • DNA damage
  • bladder cancer
  • insulin resistance

… and many other conditions.

Brain function is of course a key concern for many people these days and consuming foods which contain sulforaphane can help to maintain brain health.

I was reminded this morning of the significant potential health benefits of earthing/grounding while watching a program on GAIA.

If you are not familiar with GAIA, it is similar to Netflix but with more of an emphasis on topics such as integrative health, spirituality etc.

In fact I enjoy the content available on GAIA that I rarely watch Netflix any more.

Here is a link to the episode that I watched this morning on earthing/grounding which you can watch for free

Here is an example of what the published research has to say about the potential health benefits of earthing/grounding:

Earthing: Health Implications of Reconnecting the Human Body to the Earth’s Surface Electrons

Gaétan Chevalier, 1, 2 ,*Stephen T. Sinatra, 3 James L. Oschman, 4 Karol Sokal, 5 and Pawel Sokal 6

Abstract

Environmental medicine generally addresses environmental factors with a negative impact on human health. However, emerging scientific research has revealed a surprisingly positive and overlooked environmental factor on health: direct physical contact with the vast supply of electrons on the surface of the Earth.

Modern lifestyle separates humans from such contact. The research suggests that this disconnect may be a major contributor to physiological dysfunction and unwellness. Reconnection with the Earth’s electrons has been found to promote intriguing physiological changes and subjective reports of well-being. Earthing (or grounding) refers to the discovery of benefits—including better sleep and reduced pain—from walking barefoot outside or sitting, working, or sleeping indoors connected to conductive systems that transfer the Earth’s electrons from the ground into the body. This paper reviews the earthing research and the potential of earthing as a simple and easily accessed global modality of significant clinical importance.

4. Conclusion

De Flora et al. wrote the following: “Since the late 20th century, chronic degenerative diseases have overcome infectious disease as the major causes of death in the 21st century, so an increase in human longevity will depend on finding an intervention that inhibits the development of these diseases and slows their progress” [33].

Could such an intervention be located right beneath our feet? Earthing research, observations, and related theories raise an intriguing possibility about the Earth’s surface electrons as an untapped health resource—the Earth as a “global treatment table.” Emerging evidence shows that contact with the Earth—whether being outside barefoot or indoors connected to grounded conductive systems—may be a simple, natural, and yet profoundly effective environmental strategy against chronic stress, ANS dysfunction, inflammation, pain, poor sleep, disturbed HRV, hypercoagulable blood, and many common health disorders, including cardiovascular disease. The research done to date supports the concept that grounding or earthing the human body may be an essential element in the health equation along with sunshine, clean air and water, nutritious food, and physical activity.

This simple behavioral change has the potential to initiate powerful improvements in health conditions and is something that may warrant consideration for everyone.

I want to share with you a podcast I recently guested on that really goes into the science of NAD+, ENERGY and the benefits of Pricera – here is the link: https://lnkd.in/g-EK96G

Here is some  information on our NAD+ precursor formulation – Pricera.

NAD+ levels decline precipitously as we age: it is down 50% by the age of 50 and down 90 – 96% by the age of 80
– one of the key functions of NAD+ is to activate the Sirtuin longevity genes which are critical for healthy aging
– when the Sirtuins are not activated, it accelerates vascular aging which will of course impact on the vascular system  but since the vascular system delivers oxygen and nutrients to every cell in the body, the lack of NAD+ will have a consequential negative impact on virtually EVERY cell in the body and virtually all chronic degenerative conditions

Increased Energy Levels

Certainly reported increased energy (due to Pricera’s impact on the mitochondria) has been widely reported however that is just one reported benefit – and the report often comes in from individuals in good to excellent health.

Others key applications include:

  • Neurodegenerative conditions – such as Parkinson’s
  • Inflammation
  • Addictions
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Exercise performance and recovery
  • Immune system activation
  • Low energy/mitochondrial dysfunctions
  • Blood sugar issues
  • Hypertension
  • Elevated cholesterol levels
  • Mood disorders
  • Oxidative stress

Here are a couple of examples of typical testimonials:

Liking Pricera 🙂

Definitely boosting energy and focus.
It’s been ages since I got out in the evening for a bike ride
just because I was so knackered.

This changed within 2 days of starting the Pricera.
Also more mental clarity.

Chris Spooner, ND
Vernon, BC

For a number of years I have been dealing with low energy and stamina, Chronic Fatigue and hand tremors.

One of the key areas where Pricera impacts me is my energy levels – in the past, I often could only work for 4-5 hours before I felt exhausted and would have to stop.

Some days it felt like my energy levels were so depleted that it was a struggle to get out of bed.

Since starting on the Pricera, I have experienced a tremendous boost to my energy levels and I can now work 8-10 hours at a stretch.

I have gained more stamina, energy and clarity and I have seen a significant improvement in my exercise capacity.

For myself, Pricera has been a life saver, and I will not miss a single day taking it!

I wanted to share with you an article from Fight Aging!
on the topic of hypertension and cognitive decline.

Fight Aging! puts out a free weekly newsletter on current developments in the area of aging research – I have been subscribing to it for many years.

Regards,

Rob

Here is a reminder that the increased blood pressure of hypertension, or even more modestly raised blood pressure, is an important downstream mechanism in aging. Higher blood pressure over time results in greater tissue damage to the brain, kidneys, and other organs, greater vulnerability to atherosclerosis, and many more issues. Raised blood pressure is one of the more important ways in which the underlying molecular damage of aging is converted into structural and physical damage that leads to death.

High blood pressure appears to accelerate a decline in cognitive performance in middle-aged and older adults. Nearly half of American adults have high blood pressure or hypertension. Having high blood pressure is a risk factor for cognitive decline, which includes such things as memory, verbal fluency, attention and concentration. Blood pressure of 120 mmHg – 129 mmHg systolic (the top number in a reading) or higher is considered elevated. Systolic pressure above 130 mmHg, or diastolic pressure (the bottom number) of 80 mmHg or higher is considered hypertension.

Researchers analyzed findings from an existing study that included blood pressure and cognitive health information for more than 7,000 adults in Brazil, whose average age was about 59 years old at the study’s start. The study participants were followed for an average of nearly 4 years; testing included analysis of memory, verbal fluency, and executive function, which includes attention, concentration, and other factors associated with thinking and reasoning.

Systolic blood pressure between 121 and 139 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure between 81 and 89 mmHg with no antihypertensive medication use was associated with accelerated cognitive performance decline among middle-aged and older individuals. The speed of decline in cognition happened regardless of hypertension duration, meaning high blood pressure for any length of time, even a short duration, might impact a person’s speed of cognitive decline. Adults with uncontrolled hypertension tended to experience notably faster declines in memory and global cognitive function than adults who had controlled hypertension.

“In addition to other proven benefits of blood pressure control, our results highlight the importance of diagnosing and controlling hypertension in patients of any age to prevent or slow down cognitive decline. Our results also reinforce the need to maintain lower blood pressure levels throughout life, since even prehypertension levels were associated with cognitive decline.”

We all know that exposure to airborne particulate matter can cause health issues, however this paper published in Environmental Research suggests that the problem may be a lot worse than we thought as the study showed evidence of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and motor neuron disease (MND) in young individuals.

Regards,

Rob

Summary:

After examining the brainstems of 186 young Mexico City residents aged between 11 months and 27 years of age, researchers, found markers not only of Alzheimer’s disease, but also of Parkinson’s and of motor neuron disease (MND) too. These markers of disease were coupled with the presence of tiny, distinctive nanoparticles within the brainstem – their appearance and composition indicating they were likely to come from vehicle pollution.

FULL STORY

Researchers looking at the brainstems of children and young adults exposed lifelong to air pollution in Mexico City have discovered disturbing evidence of harm.

Previous studies have linked fine particulate air pollution exposure with Alzheimer’s disease, and researchers have also reported evidence of air pollution-derived nanoparticles in the frontal cortex of the brain.

But after examining the brainstems of 186 young Mexico City residents aged between 11 months and 27 years of age, researchers, including Professor Barbara Maher from Lancaster University, found markers not only of Alzheimer’s disease, but also of Parkinson’s and of motor neurone disease (MND) too. These markers of disease were coupled with the presence of tiny, distinctive nanoparticles within the brainstem — their appearance and composition indicating they were likely to come from vehicle pollution.

This has led researchers to conclude that air pollution of this nature — whether inhaled or swallowed — puts people at risk of potential neurological harm. The brainstem is the posterior part of the brain which regulates the central nervous system, controls heart and breathing rates, and how we perceive the position and movement of our body, including, for example, our sense of balance.

Professor Maher said: “Not only did the brainstems of the young people in the study show the ‘neuropathological hallmarks’ of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and MND, they also had high concentrations of iron-, aluminium- and titanium-rich nanoparticles in the brainstem — specifically in the substantia nigra, and cerebellum.

“The iron-and aluminium-rich nanoparticles found in the brainstem are strikingly similar to those which occur as combustion- and friction-derived particles in air pollution (from engines and braking systems).

“The titanium-rich particles in the brain were different — distinctively needle-like in shape; similar particles were observed in the nerve cells of the gut wall, suggesting these particles reach the brain after being swallowed and moving from the gut into the nerve cells which connect the brainstem with the digestive system.”

The ‘neuropathological hallmarks’ found even in the youngest infant (11 months old) included nerve cell growths, and plaques and tangles formed by misfolded proteins in the brain. Damage to the substantia nigra is directly linked with the development of Parkinson’s disease in later life. Protein misfolding linked previously with MND was also evident, suggesting common causal mechanisms and pathways of formation, aggregation and propagation of these abnormal proteins.

The one thing common to all of the young people examined in the study was their exposure to high levels of particulate air pollution. Professor Maher says that the associations between the presence of damage to cells and their individual components — especially the mitochondria (key for generation of energy, and signalling between cells) — and these metal-rich nanoparticles are a ‘smoking gun’.

Such metal-rich particles can cause inflammation and also act as catalysts for excess formation of reactive oxygen species, which are known to cause oxidative stress and eventual death of neurons. Critically, the brainstems of age- and gender- matched controls who lived in lower-pollution areas have not shown the neurodegenerative pathology seen in the young Mexico City residents.

These new findings show that pollution-derived, metal-rich nanoparticles can reach the brainstem whether by inhalation or swallowing, and that they are associated with damage to key components of nerve cells in the brainstem, including the substantia nigra.

Even in these young Mexico City residents, the type of neurological damage associated with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and motor neurone diseases is already evident. These data indicate the potential for a pandemic of neurological disease in high-pollution cities around the world as people experience longer lifespans, and full symptoms of earlier, chronic neurological damage develop.

Professor Barbara Maher said: “It’s critical to understand the links between the nanoparticles you’re breathing in or swallowing and the impacts those metal-rich particles are then having on the different areas of your brain.

“Different people will have different levels of vulnerability to such particulate exposure but our new findings indicate that what air pollutants you are exposed to, what you are inhaling and swallowing, are really significant in development of neurological damage.

“With this in mind, control of nanoparticulate sources of air pollution becomes critical and urgent.”
